This November at the height of cuffing season, The Newark Museum of Art, turns the music up, the lights down low,  and makes room for those fall nights to get a little more inviting.

Debuted in 2015 at Aljira, A Center for Contemporary Art, The HOLDOUT is a social sculpture and radio station created by Derrick Adams that welcomed local creatives and cultural practitioners to gather and hold space in response gentrification and rapid economic development.

Inspired by its first activation, Art After Dark will feature an immersive experience and invite participating artists, including Kevin Darmanie and Nyugen E. Smith, sets by the Vinyl Society’s DJ Kaydonna and John Butler, archival photos and materials, and tours of the exhibition led by guest curator Alliyah Allen.

This program is produced in conjunction with Dreamtime in Newark: Aljira and the Making of Global Contemporary Art.
