The Manager of Youth Programs develops, manages, and implements Youth Initiatives, Explorers Program, and Camp NMOA. Oversee teen program highlighting college, career, and life readiness skills that enables Newark-area high school students to build essential skills and self-confidence through a curriculum that draws upon the Museum’s unique collections, resources, and staff. Each year, 40+ students from diverse backgrounds learn about their passions and strengths and develop new skills as public speakers, teachers, researchers, and leaders. Develops curriculum for Explorers Program focused on college readiness, professional development, and life-skills. Supervise and support camp staff. This individual must have a commitment to working in a team-based environment that values innovation, creative learning, risk taking and experimentation. Ensure an ongoing and productive conversation with a diverse and growing audience.

Schedule: This position is a full-time, hybrid onsite/remote position, required to work onsite at least 4 days per week /may work from home up to 1 day per week.  During camp, it is required to work onsite at least 5 days a week.

The Coordinator, Member Services is responsible for providing customer support to members of The Newark Museum of Art. The Coordinator will respond to member inquiries and fulfill membership benefits in a timely fashion, provide database and administrative support to acquire, renew, and cultivate members, and represent membership at Museum and community events. Reporting to the Director, Membership and Visitor Experience, this position plays a key role in providing a unique and positive experience for members and supporters of all backgrounds and capacities. Working alongside the Manager of Visitor Experience and peers in Philanthropy and External Relations, Finance, and other departments, the Coordinator, Member Services will help increase member support for the Museum by providing excellent customer service and supporting the department’s fundraising efforts.

The Manager, Accounting is a critical role within the Accounting Team. This role will be focused on general accounting and responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all transactions in the general ledger. This position reports to the Controller/Director, Accounting and has a minimum of 2 direct reports.

Responsible for protecting Museum property and collections from theft, fire, sabotage and accidental or willful damage or destruction and for protecting staff and visitors of the Museum from situations that may threaten their safety. Also, responsible to act as good-will ambassadors for the Museum and provide essential customer services in a courteous and professional manner.

Reporting Relationship: Director of Security
Rate: $17.65 hourly rate; includes a comprehensive organization-sponsored benefits package including medical plan, dental plan, vision plan, life insurance, Pension Plan, 401K retirement, and generous paid time off.
Schedule: Security staff work a 40-hour week on-site; includes holidays and weekends.  Overtime available for other shifts.

Internship Program

The Intern, Administration will support the daily operations of both the Administration Department and Director’s Office. This will include performing a wide range of office duties including document preparation and mailroom assistance. As a member of the 2024 Summer Internship Program cohort, the individual will have the opportunity to connect with their peers and other museum staff during lunchtime sessions, staff meetings, and museum programs.

Duration: The 2024 Summer Internship Program runs eight continuous weeks and 28 hours per week, from June 18 to August 9.

Schedule: This internship is part-time, hybrid onsite/remote position, required to work onsite 3 days per week /may work from home up to 1 day per week.

Rate: $15.13/hourly

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with projects that support the Chief of Staff and Manager of Administration.
  • Aid in the preparation of internal meetings by creating PowerPoint presentations, gathering supplies, and ensuring meeting spaces are set up appropriately.
  • Administrative duties include file organization, records management, and archiving old documents.
  • Assist in managing in- and outgoing packages and mail via USPS, UPS, FedEx, including weighing and affixing postage, etc.
  • Support in sorting and delivering incoming mail by department to ensure timely distribution.
  • Assist with office supply inventory and distribution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
  • Major or focus in administration, non-profit management, art history, museum studies, or other related fields.
  • Prior experience with mailroom equipment (scanning, faxing, copying, metering, binding) preferred.
  • Creative thinking and growth attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good presentation facilitation, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, move about, and access and operate equipment.

Department: Registrar

Reporting to: Collections Manager

Duration: The 2024 Summer Internship Program runs eight continuous weeks and 28 hours per week, from June 18 to August 9.

Schedule: This internship is part-time, onsite position, required to work onsite 4 days per week. There will be documentation work which can periodically be completed remotely.

Rate: $15.13/hourly

Must apply by May 1, 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with a member of the collections team in a project to rehouse and rehang approximately 1,000 period garments to improve their storage condition with safer hanger mechanisms and protection from dust.
  • Remove garments from their current hanging systems and assess their condition.
  • Select the appropriate hangar size and dust cover size for each garment, ensuring proper protection and storage conditions.
  • Create and attach visual tags for the exterior of each garment, including an image and object information for ease of identification.
  • Document all rehousing and rehanging activities in the collections database/TMS, ensuring accurate and thorough record-keeping.
  • Assist Collections/Registrar with other tasks as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduates (within one year of graduation).
  • Major or focus in conservation, art history, museum studies, or other related fields.
  • Collections database interest or experience preferred.
  • Costume and textile collection interest or experience preferred.
  • Photography skills interest or experience preferred.
  • Creative thinking and growth attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good presentation facilitation, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Assist in preparing agendas, scheduling meetings, and collecting minutes for the DEAI Committee.
  • Assist in coordinating onboarding activities for new hires.
  • Assist in organizing and cataloging materials and resources to revamp the museum staff’s intranet/The Virtual Muse.
  • Contribute to the coordination of DEAI-related content on the Museum’s website.
