Meet Elena Munoz, Assistant Curator
Elena C. Muñoz-Rodriguez is Assistant Curator, Latinx & Latin American Art at the Newark Museum of Art. Muñoz-Rodriguez received her MA in Art History from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Her projects at NMOA include Bony Ramirez: Cattleya and its accompanying catalogue, Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collision, and Saya Woolfalk: Field Notes from the Empathic Universe, as well as reinterpreting the Museum’s recently reopened historical 18th & 19th Century American art galleries. In addition to her work with NMOA’s American art collection, Muñoz-Rodriguez’s current projects include a group exhibition and accompanying publication for October of 2027.

Meet Tricia Laughlin Bloom, Senior Curator, American Art
Tricia Laughlin Bloom is the Senior Curator of American Art at The Newark Museum of Art. A specialist in modern and contemporary art, Bloom holds an MA in 19th- and 20th- Century Art Criticism and Theory from SUNY Stony Brook and a PhD in Modern and Contemporary Art from Rutgers University.

Meet Atteqa Ali, Associate Curator, Arts of Global Asia
Atteqa Ali is Associate Curator, Arts of Global Asia at The Newark Museum of Art. Her curatorial work at the Museum includes Risham Syed: Destiny Fractured (2025), Chronicles in Cloth: Siddi Quilting (2026), and reinterpreted permanent collection galleries (2028). Prior to joining the Museum, she curated more than a dozen exhibitions at venues around the world. Her publications include Collaborative Art Praxis and Contemporary Art Experiments in the MENASA (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020) and Play: Subversive Contemporary Art in Pakistan and the Diaspora (Oxford University Press, 2022).
Decorative Arts: The Art of the Everyday

Meet Amy Simon Hopwood, Associate Curator, Decorative Arts
Amy Simon Hopwood is the Associate Curator of Decorative Arts at The Newark Museum of Art. She oversees the collections of American and European ceramics, clothing, furniture, glass, jewelry, metals, organic materials, studio craft, textiles, tools, toys, and works on paper, as well as four historic buildings. She co-managed the 2021-2023 restoration and reinterpretation of The Ballantine House (1885) and has developed exhibitions including Unexpected Color: A Journey Through Glass; Four Quiltmakers, Four American Stories; ReVision and Respond: 2021 New Jersey Arts Annual; Innovators in Southwestern Jewelry, and Diversity in Sand and Clay. She was the first Costume and Textile Curator at the San Diego Historical Society and taught Honors courses on social history and gender studies at Long Island University, Brooklyn. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from Amherst College and a MA from the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture at the University of Delaware.
Dreamtime in Newark: Aljira and the Making of Global Contemporary Art

Come meet the curatorial team for an up-close tour through DREAMTIME IN NEWARK: Aljira and the Making of Global Contemporary Art. Learn about how this groundbreaking exhibition was created and the long history of collaboration between Aljira and the Museum. This tour will be led by Alliyah Allen, Guest Curator of Dreamtime in Newark.
Alliyah Allen is a first-year PhD student in Art History at Rutgers University–New Brunswick and an independent curator and arts administrator whose work takes Black feminist approaches to exhibition-making, research, and public engagement. Allen holds an MA in Modern Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University and a BA in Religion, with a concentration in Africana Studies, from Haverford College. Her major curatorial and public art projects include Blues People (2024), Wards of Newark: Manuel Acevedo (2026), and Dreamtime in Newark: Aljira and the Making of Global Contemporary Art, opening October 15, 2026, at The Newark Museum of Art.
