Join our wonderful docents for a festive holiday tour of the 1885 National Historic Landmark home of John and Jeannette Ballantine, beautifully decorated in merry Gilded Age splendor.

As we move room by room, we’ll explore the – seasonal traditions and global influences that defined this bygone era and winter holiday celebrations today.

The tour includes a special visit to the 1899 Trustees Room—normally closed to the public—where Amy Simon Hopwood, Associate Curator of Decorative Arts, will share the history of the space and highlight English, Chinese, French, and Japanese ceramics and their connections to Newark families.

Afterward, we’ll gather in Engelhard Court to enjoy a delightful spot of tea, home-baked cookies, and Yuletide cheer. Guests will also receive a collection of tried-and-true vintage holiday recipes to recreate in their own kitchens.

Note that attendance for this event is limited.

Activity Level: Moderate – Participants can expect to move between exhibits or galleries. This level is suitable for those comfortable with moderate physical activity.
