Siddi Quilting is an innovative installation and community-centered project created in collaboration with Siddi quilters.
The Siddi of Karnataka, India, are descendants of African migrants whose quilting tradition is rooted in an intuitive, improvisational approach, bringing together cloth fragments to form vibrant, abstract compositions rich in history and cultural memory.
Join us for a special behind-the-scenes Member Experience with artist and Siddi collaborator Anitha N. Reddy, who will be joining us remotely from India to offer insight into the project’s development and collaborative process. The program will also feature a screening of a newly produced documentary, presented on a large screen.
Following the screening, Atteqa Ali, Associate Curator of Arts of Global Asia, will share opportunities for members to contribute to a Siddi quilt in the Community Lab within the Arts of Global Asia galleries – inviting you to become part of this living tradition.
We hope you’ll join us for this intimate and inspiring afternoon of art, culture, and community.
