  • When a studious tomboy gets dumped on the eve of the Latin Quiz Bowl tryouts, she struggles to balance her heartbreak and studies as she transforms her appearance to win back her ex.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with directors, Kasi Lemmons and Britt Williams.

Meet the Filmmakers

Kasi Lemmons

Director, Screenwriter, Actress

Kasi Lemmons is an American film director, screenwriter, and actress. She made her directorial debut with Eve’s Bayou, followed by Talk to Me, Black Nativity, Harriet, and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

Britt Williams

Writer/Director

Britt Williams is a writer/director based in Los Angeles. She is currently a Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award fellow. Her work uses humor to explore black characters who are suddenly confronted with their own internal contradictions. She’s deeply interested in themes of community, femininity, and narratives of black progress. While at the AFI Conservatory, she directed five short films and crewed on over 10 films.Prior to attending AFI, she received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Chemistry at the University of Chicago.
