This installation is a series of portraits by Newark photographer Alessandro “Fresco” Cerdas.
Each photograph captures the special, sometimes unseen, people of this city. We hope they serve as a bridge for all of us to connect with different communities around us. What do these images say to you? Do you see yourself, your neighbor, friend, partner, or colleague?
Photographer Statement
“This started as a project for me to capture portraits of who I felt best represents Newark’s diaspora. But what I discovered was so much more. I stepped into people’s lives. They shared their space with me. They didn’t ask for anything in return. They just wanted to share their stories. And in some ways, I saw a shift away from strangers toward community. We laughed, consoled one another, expressed concerns, and shared excitement. We broke new barriers with every photo.”
