The Junior Museum
In 1916, The Newark Museum sparked the idea of establishing a Junior Museum inspire and encourage collecting among children.
At its height, The Junior Museum occupied a part of the Museum’s first floor in the North Wing with an exhibition space, a miniature zoo – and held programs such as a docent training, school field trips, a lending collection, and production of a magazine called Drums. It also hosted a variety of clubs for children aged 4-18 interested in art, nature, science, stamps and ceramics.
Active from 1917 to 2010, the Junior Museum program helped over 60,000 children discover their passions, launched careers, and created a supportive lifelong community.
NMOA is thrilled to relaunch this beloved program. Stay tuned for a dynamic schedule of fun and enriching events!
