Catherine Evans

Deputy Director, Collections and Curatorial Strategies

Catherine Evans serves as Deputy Director of Collections and Curatorial Strategies, overseeing the Museum’s Curatorial, Registration and Exhibitions departments, as well as the Library and Archives in support of our mission to be an accessible twenty-first-century institution. She plays a critical role in reimagining and interpreting the Museum’s renowned collections with the goal of engaging local, national, and global audiences.

Prior to her appointment in Newark, Catherine held various leadership positions at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, including serving as its chief curator and interim co-director. Her previous experience also includes serving as chief curator and curator of photography at the Columbus Museum of Art and as assistant curator of photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Catherine holds a bachelor of arts degree in Art History and German Literature from Williams College in Williamstown, MA. She has served on the Executive Board of Trustees of The Association of Museum Curators.
