Mary Dowd
Chief of Staff
Mary Dowd serves as the Chief of Staff of The Newark Museum of Art—after leading in different capacities over the past twenty years. In that role, she manages the Director’s office, directs the flow of work for the Administration Department, and oversees requests and negotiations of film rentals throughout the Museum campus.
With a strong background as a paralegal, she acts as the contract administrator for the Museum as well as overseeing all insurance matters. Additionally, Mary serves as the liaison to the Board of Trustees, maintains the Museum’s bylaws, and is a member of the Board’s Government Outreach Committee. She also heads up PLACE (Promoting Legal and Community Engagement), the Museum’s advocacy platform.
Mary holds a bachelor of arts degree in Sociology from Rutgers University-Newark and a graduate degree in Paralegal Studies from Montclair State University.
