There’s always family fun at The Newark Museum of Art on the first Saturday of the month!

These hands-on activities are designed for children and their families to explore and enjoy together. We kindly ask that adults stay with their children throughout the session

Timeline of Activities 

11-11:45am | Creative Play: Shapes – Triangles, Circles, & Squares oh my!  

Appropriate for ages 3-5.
Location: Engelhard Court
Shapes are the building blocks of everything around us! Let’s journey through the museum to discover bold shapes and then create a unique work of art!

12pm & 2pm | Planetarium Show: The Little Star That Could 

Appropriate for ages 5+

Journey with Little Star as they travel through the Milky Way in search of planets and a name of their own.

12:30pm | Wizard of Lizards

The Wizard of Lizards! Featuring exotic reptiles to experience nature firsthand. Children can observe, touch, and ask questions about each reptile.

1pm & 3pm | Planetarium Show: Navajo Skies  

Appropriate for ages 12+

Watch and listen to a Navajo family teach their children and grandchildren about the night skies through story and music. Navajo Skies features authentic Navajo astronomy stories told in Navajo and English.

Note: According to traditional Navajo protocol, cultural stories of the Night Sky, including stories of the Sun, the Moon and the stars, can be told only during the winter months. 

1-4pm | Family Drop-In: Celebrations

Appropriate for ages 5-12 and families.
Location: Engelhard Court

Explore how the museum’s collection reflects those joys and traditions of celebrations from around the world!

1-4pm | Imagination Station

Appropriate for ages 5+.
Location: Engelhard Court
Join us at Imagination Station and put your creativity to the test! Design prompts change weekly.

2:30pm | Wizard of Lizards

The Wizard of Lizards! Featuring exotic reptiles to experience nature firsthand. Children can observe, touch, and ask questions about each reptile.
