A new solo performance piece that asks the question how do we nurture young black girls? How do we nurture black women?
Passing Down was born out of the question “How do we nurture blackness?” In addition to that, we should ask: How do we nurture young black girls? How do we nurture black women? How do we as black women nurture ourselves? How do we activate our faith in this journey? How do we honor our ancestors? How do we change our DNA? How do we see ourselves in the future? In this piece we see the perspective of different women speaking on what it means to be black, what it is to survive, what it is to heal, and what it is to be beautiful. It’s an intergenerational piece that explores change while examining what remains constant. Written and performed by Camille Upshaw.
